Happy World Book Day!

To celebrate World Book Day we asked our artists to create covers for their favourite childhood books. Below is an insight as to why these books are so special to our illustrators.

Chambers Dorsey, The Cat in The Hat by Dr Zeuss

We love the wit, humour, creativity and pace of his books. We have grown up with his books and have since used them as teaching aids, including being the basis for school plays.

Hannah George, George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl

George’s Marvellous Medicine was one of the first books I remember reading for myself. It’s such a brilliant story and as a result, my brother and I used to have a wonderful time making our own 'medicines'!

Sarah Dennis, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

This book captured the magic of nature. It took me on a journey into another secret world of friendship and discovery.

Rich Wake, The Three Little Pigs

It was my favourite book as a kid because it used to make me laugh and scare me equally. I found the pigs really funny and the wolf was scary, but I always felt sorry for him at the end.

Paul Boston, Amazon Adventure by Willard Price

This is the book where Hal Hunt and his brother Roger head down the world's largest river in search of exotic animals so that they can collect them for zoos. My cover picture shows them trying to net an anaconda.

Sean Sims, Fattypuffs & Thinifers by Andre Maurois

This was one of my very favourite books when I was at junior school. It's a fabulous tale of how two nations, one of fat people and one of thin people, are pushed to the brink of war with each other only to be saved at the last minute!
